One of the important things you’ll want to know before you go to Walt Disney World theme parks are the Disney ride heights. Certain rides at Disney parks have height requirements to keep guests safe.

Walt Disney World has both rides and attractions. Attractions and shows do not have height requirements, so if you plan to visit the Swiss Family Tree House or the Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor (and I HIGHLY suggest that you do!) you don’t need to worry about height requirements.

For the purposes of this article on ride height requirements, I only included the rides in this list. Disney has TONS of shows and other attractions including play areas like The Boneyard, Tom Sawyer’s Island, and more but to keep things simple, I only put the actual rides on this list.

Alright! Let’s dive in and look at the Disney Ride Heights at each park!

Disney World Rides Height Policy

It’s a great idea to measure your child at home, but you can expect that cast members will be measuring children to make sure they meet the height requirement. It’s all for safety!

Each attraction that has height restrictions will have a measuring stick outside of the ride queue. This is great because you can avoid waiting in a queue if your child is too short to ride.

The cast member stationed by the ride height sign will ask your child to put their back flat against the sign, facing forward. If your child meets the minimum height requirement, they can proceed into the queue.

There is usually a second measuring stick inside the queue as well. Another cast member will double-check your child’s height.

It’s always best to follow the cast member’s advice. Kids that are too short will not be allowed on the ride vehicle, no matter how much the parents protest. It’s to keep your child safe.

These height requirements are super important in case of emergencies, if the ride would need to be evacuated for some reason.

So even if you push your way past the first measuring stick outside the queue, and you wait in the long line, your child will not be allowed onto the ride for safety reasons.

It’s best to accept cast member’s judgement outside the queue and choose another ride.

Fun fact, some attractions have built-in measuring points within the queue (like rails that are exactly 40 inches from the floor, etc.) to help cast members easily see who needs to be measured.

Isn’t that cool?!

Kids who are 40 inches or taller will be able to ride 92% of the rides! (That’s 46 of the 50 rides listed above.) In comparison, kids who are 38 inches can ride 74% of the rides. (That’s 37 of the 50 rides.)

The majority of rides and attractions have no height requirement. Keep in mind that those 50 rides do not include all of the attractions, play areas, and shows that Disney offers! There’s a lot to do at Walt Disney World!

Smaller children will still have a great time even if they don’t meet the Disney ride heights!

Drivers must be at least 54 inches to drive unassisted. But guests who are at least 32 inches can ride with driver on Tomorrowland Speedway. This ride does offer rider swap.

What is Disney Rider Switch Service?

If a child is not tall enough for a particular ride, one adult can wait with the non-riding child while the rest of the group rides. When the members of the group return, the other adult can supervise the non-rider while the waiting adult can go on the attraction with a limited number of guests without having to wait in the standby line again. Rider Switch is available at certain attractions at Walt Disney World.
